Gourmet George Makes Chicken Cordon Bleu
It was almost showtime and everything was ready to begin. Carmen noted, with pleasure, that all the seats were filled this afternoon. She spoke to them for a full ten minutes, talking about new restaurants and cooking in general. She was warming up the audience for the show. They all seemed to be enjoying themselves.
Carmen's eyes scanned every inch on the set to make sure things were in place for the chef to reach easily. She counted the pots and pans and spoons and serving pieces. When Gourmet George, the chef of the week, came on stage, everything would be ready and looking good. She would announce that he was here and he would rush out on the stage in his chef's hat and white apron. The popular show would be televised next week. Today they would make the video.
Knife sets sat ready on the front counter. It was black granite and the silver of the knives shone against its gleam. Today Gourmet George was trying a new dish similar to duck l'orange. He would use chicken instead of the duck, a fowl he considered greasy. He would need multiple knives to use in preparation. His expertise with chicken was extraordinary. She wondered if she would lunch with him after the show.
A second kitchen knife set was on the counter behind the chef. If he needed two of the same size, this would insure that one was always available. It was too difficult to stop and wash a knife or anything else during the show. They had two of everything handy. Neither he or Carmen would run out of knives or kettles. The employee who cleaned up after the show washed two of everything. However, she got a tasty meal too.
Places everyone, she announced. She gave the spectators a final big smile and thanked them for coming. Then she announced that Gourmet George was in the building. He walked quickly on to the stage and waved at the audience.
Everyone applauded as expected. She greeted him and they said a few friendly words to each other. He announced what dish he would prepare and the crowd clapped loudly. Carmen stood by, ready to help in any way she could.
She moved the wusthof knife set closer to herself so she could reach the size she needed easily. It would not do to come between the chef and the camera lens at any time during the show. As on any good cooking program, they already had one completed dish baking in the oven, ready to show the audience how it looked after preparation and cooking. The air smelled of chicken and bacon already. It looked like it would be a good show.
